I know, I know it’s not Friday any more, and I’m sorry it’s two days late. Friday ended up being a whirl of busyness and Olympic frenzy, then our cable connection failed, and (after serious amounts of cursing from Alex) we eventually ended up watching the ceremony streaming through iplayer with the TV screen hooked up to the computer, which worked pretty well except that I didn’t get time to post, which actually turned out to be a good thing – I’ll explain why in a bit.
Whilst team GB have so far rather failed to live up to the dizzy heights of expectation set up by the thumping kick off on Friday, my weekend just got better and better.
Yesterday was a top day. I got to cuddle a gorgeous four-day old baby born to dear friends of ours, we saw a house we loved, we had a hilarious evening with friends consuming lots of yummy food and wine (thank you chef Alex) and I discovered I was freshly pressed on WP. So pretty cool all round.
And now I have all these new followers, which is very exciting, and I’m thinking I have a responsibility now to post something really interesting, thought-provoking, inspiring etc… well I’m not sure how to do that, so you’re getting the flower. The one I should have posted on Friday but forgot to and actually couldn’t have because I hadn’t taken this shot yet.
And because the post which got freshly pressed was the one about instagrams, it seems fitting to post an instagram to follow it up.
And, this also happens to be my 50th post on my blog!
This was taken this morning. I was lounging on my bed checking my messages and my daughter brought me this sweet little hosta flower she had picked from the garden. It looked perfect against the bed sheet and the lighting was soft and mellow.
So this one is for all the newbies. I hope you like it. And thank you so much for all of your likes and lovely comments about my post.

Forget me not
A humble flower, but I love it when forget me nots emerge in summer. They have such an intense, pretty blue. Like little dots of joy piercing the dreary grey skies. They always catch my eye…
So small, so blue, in grassy places
My flowers raise
Their tiny faces.By streams my bigger sisters grow
And smile in gardens,
In a row.I’ve never seen a garden plot;
But though I’m small
Forget me not!
from The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies, by Cicely Mary Barker
Finally school has finished! I’m feeling weary and a bit subdued today though. We’ve had a lot of bad weather and rain. Every inch of me is craving rest and warmth. Still there are summer holidays to look forward to now, and I have a few projects planned which I will post more about later….
Happy weekend everyone!

I’m going to post and run today… It’s a dreary rainy day here, but I have a busy weekend ahead – my bag is packed and I’m off into London!
Happy weekend everyone!

Well that week really flew by….
Time for another flower: there are lots of these around at the moment, especially in our garden. I’m pretty sure it’s a dog rose, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong! This one is a little crumpled, and past its best, but I like the way the golden stamen are illuminated, tall and bright in the sunlight. A sweet, delicate little flower. Later on, in the Autumn when they mature, they will turn into beautifully plump orange or red rose hips. When we lived in Italy Alex used to go and collect them from the road side and make a fragrant, sweet sticky rosehip syrup for the children. The Italians all thought he was perfectly mad – I guess it’s a very British thing!
I’m officially in countdown mode now – just 3 weeks until the end of term and holidays 🙂
Happy weekend!

Last Friday I came across Alex posting a fence picture on Flickr entitled ‘Happy Fence Friday!’
“What’s that all about??”
“Well, it’s a fence… you know, for Fence Friday. Like Macro Monday”
“Macro Monday?”
“… erm, it’s a Flickr thing…”
(As you can tell I don’t really do Flickr. I would like to get more into it, but, well, time is an issue.)
“Oh, ok then.”
Anyway, I decided to start my own little thing on here. I’ll call it Flower Friday. Just to put everyone in a happy flowery weekend kind of mood (I apologise if anyone has done this before, but I like the idea of posting flower pictures on a Friday, convenient alliteration aside). And if you live in the UK like me you will definitely need cheering up what with the intemperate weather we have been experiencing lately.
I’m not sure what kind of roses these are, but they are such a beautifully intense shade which I can’t quite describe; not quite pink, or red, or peach. Very appealing.
So, today I’m off on a girl’s weekend. Alex is looking after the kids, and I am looking forward to lots of laughter, yummy food, plenty of alcoholic beverages, walks by the sea, sleeping in, cycling, reading on the train (oh how I love solitary train journeys), having my thoughts all to myself and setting them free to wander….
What are you all looking forward to?
Have a great weekend everyone!
